Was Kobe Bryant Intentionally Poisoned in 2002? – This DiSH for May 20

In 2002, Kobe Bryant woke up at 1 a.m. on this day with stomach issues after ordering hotel room service. He was apparently the only one who got sick at the hotel that night. 

In 1972, the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Nets to win the ABA championship for the second time. 

In 1979, the Winnipeg Jets beat Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers to win the World Hockey Association’s final Avco Cup. 

In 2000, Minnesota Timberwolf Malik Sealey was killed by a drunk driver. 

In 1972, Bee Bee Bee was a 19-1 longshot but still won the Preakness Stakes

In 1988, the bull Red Rock was finally ridden successfully.

And in 1922, Kenessaw Mountain Landis reinstated Babe Ruth and two others after breaking the rules at the end of 1921.

In 2000, 19-year old Adam Petty died during a practice session at Loudon. 

In 1970, Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks, hit career homerun #500.

In 1979, Chris Evert lost on clay for the first time in six years. 

In 1997, Kobe Bryant shot five airballs in the closing minutes of their playoff loss to the Utah Jazz.

And in 2012, Rhein Gibson shot a 55 on a full-length golf course. 

Baseball Player traded for Cases of Budweiser – This DiSH for April 26

In 2003, pitcher Nigel Thatch was traded to the Fullerton Flyers for 60 cases of Budweiser. Thatch was and still is an actor who wanted to play baseball. He acted in a series of Budweiser commercials in the early 2000s. 

In 1983, the Baltimore Colts drafted John Elway with the first overall pick.

In 1931, Lou Gehrig hit a home run that didn’t count. He ended up in a tie with Babe Ruth at the end of the season for most home runs. 

In 2006, Kobe Bryant changed his jersey number from 8 to 24.

Jim Thorpe Stripped of his Olympic Medals – This DiSH for Jan. 26

In 1913, Olympic Decathlete and Pentathlete Jim Thorpe was stripped of his Gold medals. It was a wrong that wouldn’t be completely corrected for 110 years! 

In 1983, Cheryl Miller scored 105 points in a high school basketball game, overshadowing her brother Reggie’s 40 point night.

And in 2020, Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others were killed when the helicopter they were in crashed in Calabasas, California.

And in 1927, the first live broadcast of an English Soccer Match.
