In 1979, the Winnipeg Jets beat Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers to win the World Hockey Association’s final Avco Cup. 

In 2000, Minnesota Timberwolf Malik Sealey was killed by a drunk driver. 

In 1972, Bee Bee Bee was a 19-1 longshot but still won the Preakness Stakes

In 1988, the bull Red Rock was finally ridden successfully.

And in 1922, Kenessaw Mountain Landis reinstated Babe Ruth and two others after breaking the rules at the end of 1921.

Barker Perfect and Cobb Pummels a Fan – This DiSH for May 15

In 1912, Ty Cobb went into the stands and beat up a heckling fan. 

In 1990, the Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins played the longest NHL Stanley Cup Finals game. 

In 1941, Joe Dimaggio’s record 56 game hitting streak got started on this day. 

And in 1994, Neal Lancaster won a 6-player sudden death to earn a PGA tour win. That’s the largest group to play a sudden death playoff.

And in 2020, Becky Hammon became the first woman to take over as head coach in an NBA game.
